Why is a hearing check required?
To confirm the diagnosis, a hearing test is mandatory to do. In the hearing test, the patient is asked to listen to the sound played on the earphone. The volume and tone of the voice are then adjusted differently. This hearing test aims to detect disorders of the ear, which cause symptoms of hearing loss or vertigo. This is important because hearing loss is something that interferes with daily activities.
What other checks need to be done?
Not only are hearing examinations there are other checks that must be done. These checks include:
- Physical examination. This examination reviews the medical history first then continues with a physical examination to find out the cause of the sensation of spinning dizziness. The doctor asks the patient to try to move the eyes, head, or when lying down in a certain position. Observations are made by doctors carefully and include observations on eye movements.
- Electroencephalography (EEG). It is feared, vertigo occurs due to brain disorders. Through this test, a small disk which is placed around the head (electrodes) is used. This examination serves to observe the electrical activity in the brain.
- Blood test. Examination of blood composition is also important to measure the number of red and white blood cells in the body. If the number of blood cells is not normal, this indicates disturbances in the body, such as inflammation or infection that causes vertigo.
- Scanning. In certain cases, doctors recommend that people with vertigo do a CT scan or MRI to detect problems in the brain.
